Pain Care, without the Guesswork

When pain doesn't settle down, there's usually a specific joint, nerve, disc, muscle, or piece of tissue driving it. At Medical Associates of Richmond, we find that source and treat it directly. We do minimally invasive, non-surgical procedures designed to reduce pain and get you back to your life.

We treat patients dealing with:

  • Back and neck pain including sciatica, herniated discs, spinal stenosis, facet joint pain, and pain after spine surgery.

  • Joint pain — knee, hip, shoulder, and SI joint

  • Nerve and complex pain — neuropathy, CRPS, post-shingles pain, compression fractures

If your pain is getting in the way of daily life, or hasn't responded to rest and over-the-counter medication, it's worth having it evaluated.

FAQs

What does a pain specialist actually do?

We look for the source of the pain rather than just covering symptoms with stronger medication. We review your history, exam, imaging, and prior treatments, then consider targeted procedures designed to calm the specific nerve, joint, disc, or tissue causing the problem. The goal: less pain, better function, and a safer plan.

Will you just prescribe me opioids?

If needed, Yes.

The right, safe amount of pain medicine will be provided when appropriate. But long-term daily opioid use is rarely the best answer for structural pain — our focus is on identifying the pain source and treating it directly, so the goal is to help you rely less on daily medication, not more.

What kind of procedures do you offer?

Epidural injections, nerve blocks, facet and SI joint injections, radiofrequency ablation, genicular nerve therapy, trigger point injections, spinal cord stimulation, and more.

All minimally invasive and non-surgical, chosen based on what's actually driving your pain.
